Today I am going to share with you a supplement that I incorporated into my diet: vegan protein. I have been eating more vegan foods in the last month, having at least 3 vegan meals per week and I wanted to give a try for vegan supplements too. There are plenty of options of plant-base protein powders on the market, like soy protein, rice protein, hemp protein and pea protein, which are great options for a vegan diet.
Nutrition: Vitamins and Minerals
I am having vegan protein powder from MissFits Nutrition in a chocolate flavour, it is made from pea protein isolate. What I most like of MissFits Nutrition protein powder: it is high in protein, low in carbs and fats. As it is isolated, it is a lean pea protein and it helps you boost up with vitamin B12 and Zinc, which has 25% daily intake of each in one serving. I found it great because many vegans lack of vitamin B12, as is naturally found in animal products, including dairy, eggs, meat, fish and poultry and it is generally not present in plant foods. The key role of Vitamin B12 is the functioning of the brain and nervous system via the synthesis of myelin and the formation of red blood cells, it is very important to have Vitamin B12 in your diet and give it more attention especially if you are on a vegan diet to make sure you don’t lack it. The other mineral contained in this powder is the Zinc, which its highest sources levels are found mainly in foods high in protein – especially animal proteins like meat, seafood or dairy. Zinc is important in your diet as it may reduce the risk of inflammatory diseases and it has a significant role in the immune function, according to researchers.
The taste: Chocolate flavour
I had tried the protein with water, almond milk and coconut milk. After my workout I normally have it with water as it is better for absorption. For my shakes in the morning, I had few times with almond milk and other with coconut milk, depending if I am mixing it with fruits – I love the coconut and chocolate taste together! I am having the Multitasker chocolate flavour, as it has no sugar added, it has a soft chocolate taste and I found it great, I got used to not have sugar in my drinks so for me it is great!
